Botox® What to Expect

Botox® Cosmetic is administered by Dr. Guarino in our Hamilton med spa. The prescription formula is injected directly into the muscle in the forehead and brow area, relaxing the area to diminish lines and creases.*

A typical Botox Cosmetic treatment session at our Hamilton Medical Spa takes approximately 15-30 minutes. Results include a younger more vibrant looking face lasting up to 3 months. Full effects are seen within 7-10 days of your treatment.*

Botox® Safety Information

Botox® is FDA approved and has been safely used in doctor’s offices for over 15 years. It is a simple procedure that requires no anesthesia or sedation and patients can drive, speak, chew, and experience all of their daily activities immediately following the procedure.

Many say the pain associated with the Botox® injection is similar to a fly or ant bite. The discomfort following the procedure is minimal and can be subdued with a numbing cream.

Side effects include localized pain, inflammation, swelling, tenderness and redness.

You should not use Botox® if you:

  • Have an infection where you wish to have Botox injected
  • Are allergic to any of the ingredients in Botox
  • Are pregnant or think you might be pregnant or are breastfeeding
  • Have a neurological disease

Who is a candidate for Botox® Cosmetic?

Dr. Guarino will evaluate your skin and medical condition during a consultation to determine if Botox® Cosmetic is right for you. There are very few contradictions to Botox® Cosmetic.

You should not use Botox® if you:

  • Have an infection in the area to be treated with Botox®
  • Have had an allergic reaction to Botox® Cosmetic or any of its ingredients
  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding or wish to become pregnant
  • Have a neurological disease
Will health insurance pay for the cost of Botox®?

In general, Botox® Cosmetic is a cosmetic procedure and not covered by insurance.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

The results of Botox® do vary, most patients see results lasting 3 – 4 months.

How Should I Prepare for Botox®?

During your consultation, we will discuss steps you should take to prepare. Dr. Guarino generally recommends that patients avoid alcohol for 1 week prior to treatment and stop taking aspirins or anti-inflammatory medicines 2 weeks before treatment to minimize the risk of bruising or bleeding. Talk with your doctor before discontinuing any prescription medicines.

How is the Procedure Performed?

Our Botox® treatments are performed by board certified physician Dr. Joseph Guarino in our Hamilton medical spa. The procedure is simple and usually takes less than 10 minutes. Dr. Guarino will administer Botox® as an injection. Generally, it takes several days to see initial results. Most patients achieve optimal results within 1 to 2 weeks of treatment. There is very little discomfort associated with Botox® injections. You should avoid touching or applying make-up to the affected area and we recommend exercising the facial muscles to allow the Botox® to absorb.
